How long does it take to complete a vase?
Each vase takes at least a month to become completely waterproof. The length of time is dependent on the size & type of wood, as well as the amount of semi-precious stones that are included.
How do you get the rich colors in the wood?
All colors are natural, no stains or dyes are used. The epoxy enhances the original grain of the wood and brings out the natural beauty.
What kind of finish is used?
There are 4 different types of finish layered one on top of another. The top layers are epoxy resin. Epoxy is a very tricky finish that may be adversely affected by temperature & humidity. After 40 years, John has become a master at applying a self leveling product around curved surfaces, without a blemish.
Are any pieces duplicated?
John goes to great lengths to create unique, yet functional pieces, where no two are identical.
Each vase is signed with a piece of turquoise to dot the I in John's last name.
