About Natural Nook Wooden Vases

Where does our wood come from?

Wdowin Turning on Lathe.jpg

John uses a wide variety of northeastern woods that include black walnut, white birch, & maple from fallen trees, as well as black cherry and pine harvested from his tree farm in upstate New York.  Juniper and palo verde are two favorites that he gathers from the southwest.  If he cuts a tree he stacks the boards one year to the inch of thickness to dry, then planes and mills it in preparation for a vase.  He takes pride in reclaiming wood from discarded furniture

and repurposing the wood to create a work of art and keep it from ending up in the landfill.
